Project Spotlight | South Turramurra

Unique from our other published blogs at Binai Construction, we've written this post as a spotlight on our recently completed new family home we call "The South Turramurra Project”. Located in Sydney's Upper North Shore, our clients had a clear brief from the beginning: a space that was well-utilised, contemporary yet traditional, warm and welcoming. And that's exactly what we delivered.

Let's start with the floor plan. Side by side is the before and after of the floor plans’ layout. Reconfiguring the space was crucial in utilising what was available to yield more rooms and create organic flow in the layout and as much natural light as possible.

As you can see, the biggest change we made was creating a grand master bedroom and ensuite, as shown in bedroom 1. Leaving the other bedrooms reconfigured into the guest bedroom, nursery, and home office.

The master bedroom is definitely one of the highlights of the home. The incredibly large colonial bay window adds character and charm while providing lots of natural light and a greenery view of the backyard. The ensuite bathroom is also a luxurious space, as we added a large double shower with statement tiles, brushed brass fixtures and a veiny white marble countertop. A perfectly contemporary and private corner of the home.

The nursery was another important room for our clients, as the growing family wanted a space that would be both functional and beautiful. We ensured the room would be big enough for a growing child throughout the years, from crib to bunk beds. We added detailed wooden panelling along the walls in the same olive green to make the space slightly unique from the rest of the home.

Over to the home office, this space needed to be both practical and inspiring, so we used a mix of modern and traditional elements to achieve this. We added built-in shelving and duo desks, a large window for lots of natural light, and we situated the room towards the end of the home for maximum privacy and focus.

The heart of the home is undoubtedly the kitchen and living area. Our clients were very specific about wanting traditional elements with a modern feel, which we were more than happy to deliver. We worked with the client's nominated kitchen contractor and project-managed the completion of this room. We achieved this beautiful open space by removing walls and adding large windows and sliding doors to allow natural light to spill through the kitchen, living room, hallway and dining room. Light hues of baby blue on the island, white wooden cabinets and a white marble benchtop allow the light to bounce around the room.? These elements not only look stunning, but it also lets in so much natural light, making the space feel bright and fresh. We continued this execution throughout the living room with light wooden media cabinets and bar section shelving.

Now that we've covered all the rooms, it's the details within the house that truly make it a home. The more personalised the details in taste, the homier the space feels. Some of our favourite details throughout the home include the skylight, the kitchen splashback, and the ceiling rose.

The skylight in the main bathroom is definitely a highlight feature in the home. Not only did it allow natural light to spill into the room without the need for a window, but it also made the space feel larger than it actually is. As this is the bathroom guests of the household will be using, it's nice to still have that wow factor, not just in the master bathroom!

The kitchen splashback is another beautiful detail in the home. Rather than opt for either a herringbone tile design or a marble splashback, the client went with both. Herringbone is a traditional yet classic tiling pattern design, often used with solid colour, but by utilising the beautiful veiny marble simply elevates the look.

Dating back to the Romans, ceiling roses have been used to beautifully decorate the surrounding of a light fixture, in most cases chandeliers, just like the purpose of our client's ceiling rose, located in the dining room. This uniquely bespoke feature makes a statement in the dining room, setting an elegant tone in this more formal area of the home.

Lastly, here is what our clients, Damien and Natasha, had to say about their experience building with Binai Construction.
